A compact river turbine designed to generate electricity from flowing water. We built a fully 3D printed prototype with an easily scalable design — allowing the turbine to be sized up or down for different river conditions and power outputs.

How we took Tom's idea from sketch to a functional prototype.

Tom came to us with an idea for a reusable cable clip that would let electricians clearly label cables on the job. We started with concept ideation — exploring different form factors, attachment mechanisms, and labelling approaches before agreeing on a dual-sided design with a whiteboard surface for custom on-the-fly notes and a debossed side for fixed permanent labels. The design also features a unique convex internal profile that allows the clip to grip both small and large cables securely without needing different sizes. From there we moved into CAD, refining the geometry, the cable grip, and the dimensions of both label surfaces. The final design was approved after a round of iterative refinements covering ergonomics, manufacturability, and visual clarity. We then 3D printed the working prototype and delivered it to Tom — a clean, functional product ready for real-world testing.
